There are more than 900,000 nonprofit, tax exempt organizations in the United States according to the National Center for Charitable statistics. Each of these nonprofit organizations are required to have a board of directors , a group of volunteers who have a shared commitment to the mission of the organization. The board has a shared responsibility to make sure that the mission is achieved in their community.

Most boards of directors, according to Board Source, a national organization concerned with the functioning of nonprofit boards, have 14 members. This shared commitment dramatically improves the lives of children and adults, as well as families and communities. This shared commitment to the public good is what drives the formation, development and operation of nonprofit organizations.

The weblog is about the nonprofit organization. It is about exploring the architecture of an organization. All 900,000 nonprofit organizations have common design characteristics and constructed in a similar fashion. Having said that, some organizations are very healthy and, as a result, achieve their mission. Other organizations are unhealthy and do not function very well.
