If nonprofit organizations are going to function effectively, they must have good leadership. To function effectively, leadership must be committed to the mission ensuring that is being worked in the life of their community and leadership must ensure that the organization is healthy.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, the board has the ultimate responsibility to ensure the mission and organizational effectiveness. To do so, board must have a strong board leader. That leadership responsibility is assigned to the board chair. The board leader is the board chair.
Since the board chair, in the nonprofit world, is a volunteer unlike board chairs in the corporate world which are employed and paid. So, most boards hire a paid cheap oakley sunglasses director. The director may be referred to as an executive director, operating director, administrative director, president, chief executive officer or some other name. But this person is delegated responsibility from the board to operate and lead the organization. The organization leader is the chief executive.
In the corporate world, the board chair and the chief executive positions are oftne combined into one position. However, in the nonprofit arena, these two positions are separate. Their roles and functions are different….as different as an apple is different from an orange.
